Inspector MarkInspector initials must match the production period. Colt examples may involve JMG, RCD, WGP, RS, WB, or GHD depending on year.
FinishEvaluate whether the finish appears period-correct, arsenal-applied, commercially refinished, or heavily worn.
BarrelPhotograph barrel markings and compare them to the production period. Barrel replacement is common on service pistols.
Small PartsReview hammer, safety, slide stop, trigger, mainspring housing, grips, pins, and magazine.
Rebuild MarksLook for AA, SA, RIA, OG, ANAD, LEAD, or other depot/rebuild markings.

Late WWII Colt M1911A1 Checklist

Colt / Ithaca Duplicate Serial Range

Important: Serial numbers 856405 through 916404 were duplicated by Ithaca. Pistols in this range must be identified by markings and physical features, not serial number alone.
